Inkbox & Tattly Have Both Shut Down — A 2026 Successor Guide for Refugees

Inkbox and Tattly both ceased operations February 23, 2026 when parent BIC wound down its Skin Creative division. This guide routes former customers to the current option that best fits each use case — including options that aren't LastingDays. Honest landscape view, no single one-to-one replacement, broken down by what you specifically valued about each brand.

Quick answer: Inkbox and Tattly both shut down February 23, 2026, when parent company BIC wound down its Skin Creative division. There is no single one-to-one successor brand. This guide routes you to the current option that best matches your specific use case — including options that aren't LastingDays.

TL;DR — successor by use case

  • Inkbox 1–2 week jagua semi-permanent → LastingDays semi-permanent (same chemistry, hand-drawn art, limited initial SKUs), Temporalis (closest to original Inkbox jagua formulation), EasyTatt (largest current jagua catalog), or FakeTattoos (instant 14-day, no 24h develop wait).
  • Inkbox "test a real tattoo before booking" → LastingDays semi-permanent for the full 8–14 day decision window, or LastingDays standard for fast cheap iteration ($6.99–12.99 per design).
  • Inkbox sleeve / full-arm format → StickerYou custom or EasyTatt large designs. No indie brand currently does sleeve format off the shelf at indie quality.
  • Tattly illustrator-driven adult art → LastingDays standard (3–7 day water-transfer, $6.99–12.99, hand-drawn originals by indie artist collective).
  • Tattly kid-aimed / kid-party art → StickerYou custom platform (upload any artwork at any quantity) or supermarket sheet-tattoo packs. No direct indie successor; this segment is underserved.
  • Tattly Programs corporate / brand activations → LastingDays bulk custom (50-unit minimum, 7–14 day lead) or StickerYou for higher volume.

If you're reading this, you've probably already discovered that the two brands that defined indie temporary tattoos for the last decade — Inkbox (semi-permanent jagua) and Tattly (illustrator-driven water-transfer) — are both gone. The same parent company owned them, and on December 4, 2025 that parent company (BIC, the French stationery giant) announced it was winding down its entire Skin Creative division. Final order date February 22, 2026. Operations ended February 23.

We're LastingDays. We're one of several indie brands now filling the vacuum, and we cover an overlapping but distinct slice of what Inkbox and Tattly served. The honest version of this article is: there is no perfect successor. The indie market is going to take a year or two to fully reorganize around the gap. In the meantime, here's where each Inkbox/Tattly use case has actually landed.

01.What exactly happened to Inkbox and Tattly

BIC's Skin Creative division contained three brands: Inkbox (acquired 2022 for $65M, semi-permanent jagua-based temporary tattoos lasting 1–2 weeks, ~10,000 design catalog), Tattly (acquired 2024 from founder Tina Roth Eisenberg, illustrator-driven water-transfer tattoos lasting 1–4 days, ~700 design catalog), and Rocketbook (a smart-notebook brand unrelated to tattoos). BIC announced the wind-down December 4, 2025; all three brands ended operations February 23, 2026. Last order date was February 22.

Inkbox co-founders Tyler and Braden Handley reportedly explored a buyback in January 2026 partnering with Venue.ink CEO Jason Goldlist. As of late May 2026, we have not seen public confirmation that the buyback closed. Tattly's founder has not publicly announced a similar attempt. Both inkbox.com and tattly.com remain online to process pre-Feb-23 orders and route legacy customer support; new purchases are not possible.

It's worth being clear about what kind of closure this was. This wasn't a brand failure or a product problem — both Inkbox and Tattly had healthy customer bases and active communities. It was a corporate portfolio decision: BIC determined the Skin Creative division was no longer aligned with its core stationery focus. The brands are gone because the parent company chose to exit the category, not because the products stopped selling.

02.The Inkbox jagua category: what's still buyable

Inkbox's For Now Ink was a jagua/genipin-based plant ink. Apply, wait 24–36 hours for the ink to oxidize on the skin, get a dark blue-black tattoo that fades naturally over 1–2 weeks as the top epidermal layer exfoliates. Different brands now operate in this category with varying chemistries and execution:

Brand Wear time Develop time Best for
LastingDays semi-permanent 8–14 days 24–36h Hand-drawn original art; lower irritation risk; same chemistry as Inkbox
Temporalis 12–18 days 24h Closest formulation to original Inkbox For Now Ink concentration
EasyTatt 1–2 weeks ~36h Largest catalog (5,000+ designs); broad price range
FakeTattoos Up to 14 days 0h (instant) If you hated the Inkbox 24h wait — this skips it via a different mechanism

Picking between them depends on what you valued about Inkbox. If maximum wear length, Temporalis. If artwork originality, LastingDays. If catalog scale, EasyTatt. If you specifically hated the 24-hour develop wait, FakeTattoos (note: their mechanism isn't true jagua, so the wear behavior is slightly different).

03.The Tattly water-transfer category: what's still buyable

Tattly's category was harder to replace because the brand was a tight bundle of three things: standard water-transfer mechanism (1–4 day wear), 700+ illustrator-driven design catalog, and broad aesthetic range spanning kid-friendly to art-forward. No single current brand replicates all three. Current options split by which axis matters most:

  • LastingDays standard line — water-transfer mechanism (3–7 day wear with engineered adhesive, longer than Tattly's lighter construction), hand-drawn originals by named indie artists, adult-tattoo aesthetic (fine line, botanical, gothic). Closest match on the "named indie artists, paid per piece, real artwork" axis. Not the closest match on kid-art aesthetic or catalog breadth.
  • StickerYou custom platform — upload any artwork at any quantity, including kid art, brand art, custom illustration. Closest match on flexibility and quantity. Not curated — quality of artwork is whatever you upload.
  • INKED by Dani — designer-led fine-line and minimal designs. Smaller catalog. Closest match on "designer brand with distinct visual point of view."
  • Conscious Ink, smaller indies — various indie brands serving niche aesthetics. Varying quality and longevity.

Honest gap: the specific "kid-friendly + indie-curated illustrator + sheet-pack format" combination Tattly served well doesn't currently have a one-to-one replacement. If your Tattly use case was specifically "kid birthday party with cute illustrator-drawn art on a sheet," the best practical answer is StickerYou for custom or a basic supermarket pack for utility.

04.If you had a specific design you loved on Inkbox or Tattly

Both Inkbox and Tattly worked with named illustrators under licensing agreements. When the brands shut down, those licenses returned to the artists. If you had a specific design you loved:

  • Find the original illustrator. Both Inkbox and Tattly credited the artist on each design page. Search the artist's name and check whether they sell directly (Instagram, Etsy, personal portfolio site) or have moved to another platform.
  • Commission a similar piece. LastingDays and other indie brands take custom commissions; lead times vary from 7 days (basic single piece) to 4–6 weeks (full custom artwork from scratch). Pricing varies similarly.
  • Save the image and use a custom platform. If you legally have the image (e.g., from a previous purchase, with appropriate rights), StickerYou or a similar custom platform can produce a one-off based on your file. Verify you have the rights before uploading any artwork that wasn't yours originally.

05.What pre-closure Inkbox and Tattly customers should know

If you placed an order before February 22, 2026 and have outstanding questions, both companies are still routing support:

  • Inkbox: hi-inkbox@getinkbox.com for product questions. artists@getinkbox.com for marketplace illustrators with unresolved royalty or asset questions.
  • Tattly: tattly.com support pages route legacy order inquiries; check the site for the current contact path.

Neither company is taking new orders. Existing orders placed before the cutoff should be honored. Refund and replacement timelines vary; the wind-down team is operating on a reduced schedule.

06.Why we wrote this, and where we fit in

We're LastingDays. We were running parallel to Inkbox and Tattly while they were operating — we've published honest comparisons against Inkbox, against Tattly, and three-way comparisons that were originally written while both brands were live. After the February closure we rewrote those pieces to reflect the new reality, and we wrote this one to capture the Inkbox/Tattly refugee search traffic specifically.

Our two product lines:

  • Standard water-transfer: 3–7 day wear, $6.99–12.99, 32+ hand-drawn original SKUs live across our catalog. Closest match for short-event use cases and for Tattly-style "indie artist on the body."
  • Long-wear semi-permanent jagua: 8–14 day wear, $13.99–25.99, rolling out 2026 with limited initial SKUs. Same chemistry family as Inkbox For Now Ink, with hand-drawn original artwork instead of stock/licensed designs.

If your Inkbox use case was the 1–2 week jagua wear and you specifically valued the artwork originality, our semi-permanent line is the closest match currently shipping. If your Tattly use case was the indie-artist aesthetic at a short single-event wear, our standard line is the closest match. If neither use case maps cleanly to us, this article has linked to the brands that come closer on whichever axis matters most.

When did Inkbox and Tattly shut down?

Both brands officially ceased operations on February 23, 2026. The last day they accepted new orders was February 22, 2026. Parent company BIC announced the wind-down on December 4, 2025, giving roughly 11 weeks of notice before final closure.

Is there one brand that replaces both Inkbox and Tattly?

No single brand covers both. Inkbox's jagua semi-permanent (1–2 week wear) and Tattly's illustrator-driven water-transfer (1–4 day wear) were structurally different products. Current options split by which use case matters: LastingDays covers both with its two-line strategy but with a smaller catalog; EasyTatt and Temporalis cover the jagua side at scale; StickerYou covers the broad custom side.

What's the best Inkbox alternative for testing a real tattoo design?

Either LastingDays semi-permanent (8–14 day wear, same jagua chemistry, hand-drawn art) or Temporalis (12–18 day wear, closest to original Inkbox concentration). The 8–14 day window is the trial period that lets the novelty hedonic peak fade so you can judge whether you actually want the design permanently.

Are my pre-closure Inkbox orders still being honored?

Yes. Orders placed before February 22, 2026 should be processed and shipped under the wind-down support team. Contact hi-inkbox@getinkbox.com for product questions, or artists@getinkbox.com if you were a marketplace illustrator with unresolved royalty questions. Tattly handles its legacy orders through tattly.com support pages.

Why did BIC shut down Inkbox and Tattly?

It was a corporate portfolio decision, not a brand failure. BIC determined that its Skin Creative division (Inkbox + Tattly + Rocketbook) was no longer strategically aligned with the company's core stationery focus. Inkbox had reportedly seen sales decline under BIC's ownership since the 2022 acquisition. Inkbox co-founders explored a buyback in early 2026; as of May 2026 we have not seen confirmation that it closed.
